Iven Orx & Aaron Vinn, EARTHWAVE SILENCE, 2023, paint on canvas, 63,4 x 79,1 x 1,2 in (161 x 201 x 3 cm)

Iven Orx & Aaron Vinn are pleased to announce SPACES, a new exhibition presented in their Cologne exhibition spaces, featuring a cycle of recent paintings and soft sculptures. With this body of work, the artists continue their long-standing exploration of abstract topographies, immersive atmospheres, and the interplay between materiality and transcendence.

For more than fifteen years, Orx & Vinn have developed a joint practice that merges painting, sculptural experimentation, and installation. In SPACES, relief-like canvases and corporeal soft sculptures enter into dialogue: while the paintings create vibrating visual structures through dense pigment layers and transparent veils, the pliant sculptures unfold a tactile presence that charges the room with organic tension and physical resonance.

Crafted from fabrics and flexible materials, the soft sculptures appear at once familiar and strange. They evoke notions of corporeality and fragility—an intertwining of stability and instability. In contrast to the luminous surfaces of the paintings, they function like condensed fields of energy, eluding clear definition through their softness. Together, the works delineate thresholds, seams, and ruptures—zones where perception begins to flow.

Rather than depicting landscapes, SPACES generates imaginary realms that feel both primordial and visionary. These works invite viewers into a topography that is less geographic than existential—a terrain where the materiality of color and the softness of sculpture become media for inner reflection and transcendent experience.

As part of their evolving oeuvre, SPACES unfolds both as an immersive environment and as a conceptual inquiry: a threshold between presence and memory, surface and depth, matter and immateriality.

Iven Orx (b. 1985) and Aaron Vinn (b. 1988) live and work in Cologne. Their works have been presented in private collection contexts and in their own exhibition spaces in Cologne, which serve as an ongoing curatorial platform for the development of their successive bodies of work. With SPACES, the artists continue their sustained engagement with transformation, energy, and the metaphysical dimensions of abstraction.
