VEIL

THE INTERPLAY OF EMPTINESS AND SUBSTANCE

VEIL (2010–2025, mixed media on canvas, metal leaf, and relief) investigates the relationship between presence and absence, material and light. The works articulate a sensitive interplay of reflection, dissolution, and density, where empty space becomes an active dimension of the image.

Iven Orx & Aaron Vinn, GHOSTED LIGHT, 2023, paint and white gold on canvas, 63 x 39,4 x 2 in (160 x 100 x 5 cm)

„In VEIL, we explore the moment of transition between revelation and withdrawal. The work unfolds not in a clear image, but in the in-between spaces, where light fractures and color dissipates. For us, the veil becomes a metaphor for a reality that never fully reveals itself.“

Iven Orx & Aaron Vinn

A breath, as elusive as a distant exhalation, permeates the surface – as if light were inscribing an order that exists only in the moment of perception. The works of Veil resist fixation, dissolve, and reconsolidate in constant metamorphosis. They grow beyond solid space, unfold over time, and what just held its form begins to give way, as if it had never existed.

„We understand VEIL as a threshold space in which presence and absence continuously interpenetrate. The painting becomes a veil that conceals and simultaneously reveals, creating mystery by shrouding the open. In this way, a field emerges that reminds us of the fragility of perception itself.“

Iven Orx and Aaron Vinn create works here that refuse to be bound. Metal leaf captures light, swallows it, and returns it transformed. Structures rise, decay, and return, as if they were fragments of a hidden order, embedded in an eternal flow. White here is not a color, but a state – sometimes heavy and dense, sometimes so translucent that it nearly dissolves. The viewer’s gaze immerses, losing its footing, enveloped by a perception that shifts with every movement.

„For us, VEIL is the experience of the hidden within the visible. We allow layers of color and transparency to overlap until a vibrating zone forms, where clarity and blur contend with one another. The work thus remains always in a state of suggestion – never final, but fleeting, like a breath.“

„For us, VEIL means understanding painting as a breathing weave. Transparent layers overlap, drawing the gaze in while simultaneously pushing it back. In this, we experience a paradox: that which withdraws is often felt more intensely than that which is revealed.“

These works both linger and elude, physically tangible yet fleeting in nature. An art that does not remain still, awakening anew with every ray of light, shifting its form with each step of the viewer. Once encountered, they compel a return – for no moment is ever the same.
